Synopsis
Aranyam, Malayalam feature film, unfolds the intertwined destinies of two families, bound by faith and fate, under the divine gaze of Chakkulathu Kavu Bhagavathi, a revered incarnation of Devi Durga.
In one family, Raghavan Nair, a humble and deeply devoted old man, endures relentless torment at the hands of his adopted daughter, Rama, and her husband, Sudhakaran. Driven by greed, they plot to seize his home and land, resorting to abuse and violence. When their schemes fail, they cruelly abandon him at the sacred temple of Chakkulathu Kavu Bhagavathi, where he is left to beg for food. In his final act of faith, Raghavan Nair transfers his property to the temple committee before passing away on its premises. Justice prevails as Rama and Sudhakaran are cast out, stripped of their ill-intended claim.
In stark contrast, the second family tells a different tale. Madhavan Nair and Lakshmi Amma, a devout elderly couple, are heartbroken by their wayward son, Vishnu—a reckless young man lost in a world of vices. Hoping that marriage might reform him, they arrange his union with Shalini, a kind and virtuous woman. But Vishnu remains unchanged, sinking deeper into his indulgences. Unable to bear the shame and despair, his parents prepare to leave for a lifelong pilgrimage, even deciding to send Shalini back to her family.
Just as their world is on the brink of collapse, Vishnu experiences a profound divine intervention—a dream in which Raghavan Nair appears, urging him to change his ways and embrace his responsibilities. Struck by this revelation, Vishnu awakens to his folly, halts his parents' departure, and wholeheartedly embraces his role as a devoted son and husband.
Through an emotionally charged narrative, Aranyam subtly yet powerfully portrays the unseen but ever-present grace of Chakkulathu Kavu Bhagavathi, guiding her true devotees toward justice, redemption, and salvation.
