Synopsis

"Daivathan Kunnu" (The Mountain of Gods) draws its life from a legend that has been famous in Kerala for centuries. While the film speaks through the fantasy of Mabali Thampan (God of Tribals), it clearly distinguishes between reality and fiction. Beyond portraying the tribal communities spread across Kerala in celestial terms, "Daivathan Kunnu" also addresses the crucial question of how much their heritage and culture should be protected.
The film attempts to accurately depict the heritage value of the tribal community through the heartfelt relationship and communication between four children and Mabali Thampan, the local deity. However, the boudaries between belief and disbelief are very thin; fantasy and reality stand face to face. At its core, the film also speaks about love that rises above all differences. Mabali Thampan reminds us that what needs to be protected must be protected at any cost.
The film serves as a powerful medium to raise awareness about the plight of tribal communities in India. Historically, these communities have faced exploitation, displacement, and marginalization. Even in modern times, they continue to struggle for their rights, land and cultural preservation.
